Feeling Unmotivated?....4 Ways To Put The Power Back In Willpower!

Hey, we've all had those days when it's 6:30 p.m, you’re ready to call it a day. Butunfortunately, you can’t. Not yet.

You‘ve been on the go since 5:30 a.m, but still have things to get done before sit back and relax for the night. The thing is, the to do list is endless..... if it’s not the running after the kids, it's your job or it's the day to day mundane chores that keeps you on your toes 24/7.

You feel worn out, to the point that putting the dishes in the dishwasher might prove a challenge when you finally turn out the lights.

You're significant other calls out to see how you are and you complain wearily, “I can’t do this anymore.”

“C’mon You just need more willpower,” they say.

You can hear the empathy in their voice. You also notice the beginning of a grin. You chuckle lightly and hear them do the same.

You both know that willpower is misunderstood by most people. Needing more of it is like needing to win the lottery. Some things are tough to control, but there are ways, which 4 are listed below to help:

Plan and prioritise each day
If motivation is the reason you do something, willpower is the mental fortitude to overcome obstacles to get the job done.

Each morning (or the night before), make a list of the tasks you want to accomplish for the day. Be realistic about how much you can achieve and break big jobs into small, achievable pieces, if possible. Then, reorder the list with the most important tasks at the top, and tackle them first.

That way, if you run out of willpower, you’ve at least accomplished the most important items on your list. Finally, at the end of the day, look through your list and take a minute to appreciate what you accomplished—even if it wasn’t as much as you’d hoped.

Get enough sleep
All the action you’re taking is eventually going to tire you out. That's why getting enough sleep is important to keep increasing your willpower. We can't say "no" over and over again if we’re struggling to keep our eyes open.

Willpower isn’t something we exert once and then never again. Next time you think about pulling an all nighter or getting minimal sleep, think about how that will impact your body and how you act the next day. When you’re tired, rest. Your willpower will thank you later.

Work on your stress levels
According to studies on the connection between stress and willpower, goal orientated suffers when our fight-or-flight signalling is on.  When we are calm, we are more likely to listen to the rational part of the brain - a good friend of willpower - instead of acting emotionally and falling for temptations.

Reward yourself for your accomplishments
Sometimes, you can start moving so fast that you forget to take a moment to appreciate your efforts. Taking the time to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how big or small can motivate you to keep going in the future.

You’ll be more inclined to continue your efforts because you’ll already feel and see the rewards. You’ll know firsthand how your willpower can benefit you. That will encourage you to boost it even more and keep working towards future goals.
